Reflexology or Jikiden Reiki?

Whether you're completely new to complementary therapies or simply wondering which treatment would suit you best, here's a simple guide to both. And remember, there isn't a wrong choice.

Reflexology

What is it?

Reflexology is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works through specific points on your feet (or face), encouraging your nervous system to move away from its stress response and back towards rest, repair and balance.

Many people come for support with stress, poor sleep, anxiety, hormonal changes, chronic pain or simply because life feels overwhelming. Others come because they want to build regular moments of rest into busy lives.

What happens during a treatment?

We'll begin with a conversation about how you've been feeling and what you'd most like support with.

Once you're comfortably settled on the treatment couch, I'll invite you to take three slow, deep breaths before guiding you through a gentle body scan. If it feels right for you, I invite you to set an intention on your heart, for your treatment before we begin.

Your feet are wrapped in warm towels before I apply a nourishing foot balm and begin your treatment. If you've chosen facial reflexology, your treatment begins with a gentle cleanse, warm towels and beautiful facial oils.

Jikiden Reiki

What is it?

Jikiden Reiki is a traditional Japanese hands-on healing practice that supports deep relaxation and encourages your body's natural ability to restore balance.

Unlike many modern styles of Reiki, Jikiden follows the original Japanese teachings and remains beautifully simple.

People often describe it as deeply calming, leaving them feeling quieter, lighter and more themselves.

What happens during a treatment?

We'll begin in exactly the same way—with a conversation about how you've been feeling, followed by three slow, deep breaths, a guided body scan and, if it feels right, the opportunity to set an intention for your treatment.

You'll remain fully clothed throughout. I'll gently place my hands on different areas of your body, following where they're most needed.

Your treatment finishes with kekkō, an invigorating Japanese massage technique that leaves many people feeling grounded, refreshed and ready to return to their day.

Still not sure which to choose?

Honestly...You don't need to overthink it.

If you're new to complementary therapies, I'd usually recommend starting with foot reflexology. It's the treatment I'm best known for and, for many people, it's the easiest way to experience the deep relaxation that reflexology can offer.

If you're drawn to facial reflexology, curious about Jikiden Reiki or like the idea of combining the two, those are wonderful choices too.

The important thing to remember is that no two treatments are ever exactly the same. How you feel when you arrive, what's been happening in your life and what your body needs that day all influence how I work. Even if you've been coming to see me for years, each appointment is unique.

But if you have any questions about your specific circumstances, I always love to chat, so please get in touch.
